Ages 2-3 years
We cater for children aged between 2 and 3 years old in a welcoming bright environment. We are registered for up to 15 children in this area.
Throughout the week there is plenty of messy play, painting and fun activities to enjoy. We do ask that children wear clothes and outdoor coats that are easily washable; we do have aprons available but we do not stop a child from joining in just because they are not wearing an apron.
We believe it is important for children to express themselves and let their imaginations grow in these areas of learning and not to be restricted by plastic aprons. We do not insist that children are potty trained before starting pre-school. We will work with parents/carers and children to achieve this stage of their development.
Whilst in Caterpillars children will enjoy a free flow timetable that will include: outdoor /indoor play, structured play/free flow play, messy play, singing/story time and snack. There is no set timetable in this area of pre-school, due to the age of the children.
All our staff are very experienced working with this age group and enjoy offering lots of fun and messy activities for the children to enjoy.
We believe that at this age we are building the confidence and self worth of the child, it is a huge step for the children to be left by their parents and take the first steps in learning to be in a group of children and having to learn the social skills required, such as sharing toys and taking turns.We have potties available for children who prefer to use a potty than a toilet and a changing table for nappy changing.
We ask parents to provide nappies and baby wipes.
We encourage parents to work with the setting to potty train their children by the time they are due to move through to our Butterfly room.
3 to rising 5’s
Parents/carers will be informed of a childs progress and if it is felt appropriate your child may move to Butterflies at the age of 3 if a little more settling in time is required this will be arranged..
Children typically transition into our Butterflies room around the age of three, with a gradual and supportive settling process guided by familiar staff. Children may also start their pre-school journey directly in Butterflies, and there is no requirement for them to be potty trained. Our experienced practitioners support each child’s development in partnership with parents, adjusting transitions where additional time is needed. With a staff ratio of 1 practitioner to 8 children, learning is delivered through a balance of structured activities and free play. Children enjoy small group time, outdoor play, and snack sessions in a flexible yet consistent routine. As children grow, we gently prepare them to be school ready by building confidence, independence, communication, and social skills. Learning is always play-based, supporting creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning.
Our aim and objective is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where children can learn through play, explore new activities, and develop in a safe, stimulating setting, while keeping parents informed, valued, and fully involved in their child’s early learning journey, preparing every child to be “Ready to Learn, Ready for Life.”
Manager/DSL
I began my childcare journey in 1985, studying at Mid Warwickshire College. In over 30 years within this sector I have worked as a private nanny, nursery nurse, room leader and a manager at another setting. In 2009 I took the role as Manager at this setting.
I believe strongly in investing in staff by keeping them up to date with new Early Years approaches, providing valuable training and allowing them to express their thoughts and ideas to expand the childs learning. The bond between a child and his/her key worker is often the first relationship a child has outside of the family unit. I’m proud that we work on what we believe is right for every child, which is all children develop and learn through play at their own rate, in a welcoming, secure setting.All the staff – office based or room based – work lovingly and closely with the children and look at ways to ignite their confidence, creativity, learning and understanding of the world around them.

My journey began with pre-school in January 2014 when my eldest son started at the setting, then my other 2 children have followed in his foot steps. I became a trustee on the Management Committee in 2016. I began my role as Finance Manager in October 2018. I have worked within the childcare sector since 1990. During this time I have worked at this setting and at a private full day care setting. I have a Diploma in Pre-school Practice and have attended many other training sessions over the years

I joined the preschool in January 2025. I have 3 children, all who have attended the setting. Before I started at the setting I was a full time mum and then decided it was time to restart my career in Early Years. The children have been wonderful to work with, and the staff have welcomed me.
